    A three-year-old girl has killed in a crash between a van and a tram in Manchester, police have confirmed. 

    This incident which took place earlier today on Mosley Street involved a Metrolink tram and a white Mercedes-Benz van.

    It’s understood the girl, 3, was a pedestrian on Mosley Street at the time of the crash, when she was hit by the van as it rebounded from the collision. 

    A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: ‘Emergency services are responding to reports of a collision involving a tram and a van in Manchester city centre. 

    ‘A three-year-old girl was taken to hospital and has sadly passed away from her injuries.

    ‘No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.’

    Manchester Evening News reported that the tram has been travelling from Victoria to Manchester Airport when the incident occured. 

    A GMP Traffic spokesperson wrote on X: ‘Our officers are currently in attendance at a collision, involving a tram and another vehicle in Manchester city centre.

    ‘We are presently trying to establish the circumstances however we envisage there will be a lengthy closure of surrounding streets near to St Peters Square.’
