Girl, 11, and man, 45, killed in Chinese takeaway fire sparked by an air fryer

    By DAN WOODLAND, NEWS REPORTER

    Published: 06:39 EST, 19 February 2026 | Updated: 06:48 EST, 19 February 2026

An 11-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man have been killed in a fire at a Chinese takeaway.

Police and fire crews attended the blaze at the Golden Phoenix restaurant on Manby Middlegate, Grimoldby, near Louth, at around 6.10am on Wednesday.

Five other people were taken to hospital including a woman in her 30s who remains in a serious condition, two men in their 40s and two children under ten who have now been released.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze has since confirmed it was sparked accidentally by an air fryer.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Baxter, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: ‘Upon arrival at the scene, crews were met with a well developed fire, which has tragically claimed the lives of two people, left another in a critical condition, and injured several others.

‘Following fire investigations in conjunction with Lincolnshire Police and the regional fire investigations dog, we have determined this was started by an air fryer igniting nearby objects.

‘This will be an extremely difficult time for the family, their friends, and the tight-knit community, and our thoughts and condolences go out to them all.’

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
