Executive Council Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Gifty Oware-Mensah is set to assume the role of second Vice president after Congress voted to approve the proposal.

In a move aimed at strengthening gender representation in football governance, FIFA approved a proposal to promote the Women’s Representative on the GFA Executive Council to the position of 2nd Vice president, the third-highest office in the Association.

This marks a historic step in Ghanaian football, ensuring that a woman holds a senior leadership position with real influence over decision-making in the football ecosystem.

The change aligns with FIFA’s directive that every confederation must have at least one female representative at the executive level and reflects a broader push to promote inclusivity and equity in global football administration.

Those who advocated for this initiative believe the role will empower the women’s game in Ghana, providing stronger advocacy for resources, grassroots development, and elite competition.

After the conclusion of the 31st Session of the Ordinary Congress, Gifty expressed her appreciation to some of the members who voted to approve the proposal.

However, it is worth noting that Gifty’s Vice presidential role will be affirmed during the GFA elections in 2027, and until then, she remains an Executive Council Member.

114 out of 124 Congress Members vote in favour of third term for GFA president

At the entrance of the premises, Gifty was heard saying to one Congress member, “Thank you for making me vice,” affirming her imminent new role.

The Congress was attended by about 124 Congress members who deliberated and took decisions to shape football in the country.
