German-born Ghanaian defender Gideon Jung played a pivotal role in Greuther Fürth’s 2-1 victory over Hertha BSC in Bundesliga 2, as the hosts snapped a five-game losing streak in their head-to-head encounters.

The match began with Hertha BSC seizing the lead in the 5th minute when Ibrahim Maza calmly finished Pascal Klemens’ incisive through ball. However, Fürth struck back in the 38th minute. Gideon Jung’s perfectly weighted corner found Noel Futkeu, who rose high to head in the equalizer.

The second half saw Fürth’s capitalizing on their momentum. In the 55th minute, Futkeu completed his brace, slotting home from the center of the box after a well-timed assist from Maximilian Dietz.

The drama heightened in the 77th minute when Dietz was sent off for a second bookable offense, leaving Fürth to fend off Hertha’s pressure with 10 men.

Despite Hertha’s 58% possession and 16 shots, Fürth’s held firm, with Jung anchoring the defense. The victory propels Fürth’s closer to mid-table security ahead of their clash with Hannover 96.
