In a remarkable achievement for Ghanaian golf, 17-year-old Afi Julienne Amezado and Oluwole Temitope Akinroye have earned the opportunity to represent Ghana at the prestigious 2025 International Pairs World Final, set to take place from October 6-10, 2025, at Sun City Resort in South Africa.

The duo secured their spots after emerging victorious at the International Pairs Ghana Playoff held at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra, where they showcased their skill and determination on their home turf.

Afi Julienne Amezado, a prodigy from the Kissehman community in Ghana, has been making waves in the golfing world since discovering the sport at age 11 through the Fafali Organisation’s Golf and Goal Program.

Her journey from the slums of Kissehman to international stages is nothing short of inspiring.

Amezado’s notable achievements include winning the West Africa Female Junior Championship title at the 10th Awa Ibraheem Junior Golf Championship in Nigeria, in 2023, where she posted an impressive gross score of 249 over 54 holes, outpacing her closest competitor by 45 strokes.

She also clinched third place at the Ghana Open Golf Championship in 2022 and was crowned the best female junior golfer at the Ghana Golf Association Junior Open in the same year.

Her invitation to the Junior Open Championship in Scotland in 2022 and participation in the Mack Champ Invitational Tournament in Houston, Texas, further highlight her growing international profile.

Oluwole Temitope Akinroye’s victory alongside Amezado at the Ghana Playoff underlines his potential as a formidable golfer.

The International Pairs format, which emphasises teamwork and strategy, likely saw Akinroye complement Amezado’s skill set, contributing to their success at Achimota Golf Club.

His qualification for the World Final makes him a talent to look out for on global stages.

The International Pairs Ghana Playoff, held at the prestigious Achimota Golf Club, served as the qualifying event for Ghana’s representatives to the 2025 World Final.

The competition brought together some of the nation’s top amateur golfers, with Amezado and Akinroye rising above the field to claim victory.

Their performance demonstrated not only individual prowess but also their ability to excel in the pairs format, which requires coordination and synergy between partners.

The International Pairs World Final, scheduled for October 6-10, 2025, at Sun City Resort in South Africa’s North West Province, is a premier global amateur golf tournament that has united over 1.5 million golfers from more than 50 countries since its inception in 1998.

Participants will compete on two iconic courses: the Gary Player Country Club, known for its challenging layout and history of hosting prestigious tournaments, and the scenic Lost City Golf Course, celebrated for its dramatic views and unique design.

As Afi Julienne Amezado and Oluwole Temitope Akinroye prepare to compete at Sun City, they carry the hopes of Ghana and the pride of their communities.

Their journey to the 2025 International Pairs World Final is a testament to their talent, and hard work.

Golf enthusiasts worldwide will be watching as these young stars take on the world’s best amateur golfers in one of Africa’s most iconic destinations.
