Ghanaian duo: Portia Boakye and Grace Asantewaa, have been named in the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 Team of the Tournament, following their standout performances that helped Ghana clinch bronze in Morocco.

The Black Queens sealed a third-place finish after defeating South Africa in the bronze medal match, marking their first podium finish at the WAFCON since 2016.

The achievement was historic, and much of the credit goes to the leadership and performances of Captain Portia Boakye and midfield dynamo Grace Asantewaa.

Boakye, a veteran of the national team, led with authority and composure from the back. Her defensive intelligence, positional awareness, and experience were crucial in steadying the Ghanaian backline throughout the tournament.

This marks another high point in her storied international career, as she becomes one of the few players to feature in multiple WAFCON Best XI lists.

Grace Asantewaa, meanwhile, shone in midfield with her relentless work rate, vision, and ball progression.

The 24-year-old, who plays for Mexican side, Juarez Women, was the heartbeat of Ghana’s transitional play, linking defence and attack with maturity beyond her years.

Her ability to dictate tempo and recover possession made her a constant presence in Ghana’s strongest moments.

The full 2024 WAFCON Best XI features Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria), Michelle Alozie (Nigeria), Portia Boakye (Ghana), Bambanani Mbane (South Africa), Karabo Dhlamini (South Africa), Refiloe Jane (South Africa), Ghizlane Chebbak (Morocco), Grace Asantewaa (Ghana), Rashidat Ajibade (Nigeria), Ibtissam Jraidi (Morocco), and Esther Okoronkwo (Nigeria).
