Team Ghana recorded a morale-boosting win in their third game at the 2025 Heritage Cup on Sunday, May 25, 2025, following a thrilling encounter with China that ended 2–2 at full time before Ghana prevailed in the tiebreaker known as the “Brave.”

The match showcased the Team Ghana’s resilience after earlier defeats, proving their ability to learn quickly and adapt under pressure in this international lacrosse competition held in the suburbs of Massachusetts.

    What is the Brave?

In lacrosse tournaments such as the Heritage Cup, when a match is tied after regulation time, the game proceeds to a special one-on-one showdown called the “Brave.” Each team selects a player to face off in a fast-paced duel starting at midfield. The challenge tests individual skill, composure, and speed, and the winner of this head-to-head duel secures the match victory for their team.

Team Ghana’s victory over China in the Brave not only earned them their first win of the tournament but also injected much-needed confidence into the squad as they continue competing against some of the world’s best teams.

Coach and supporters hailed the win as a testament to the players’ growing cohesion and fighting spirit, particularly given the tough schedule of multiple matches over the weekend. The victory comes after a 4–2 loss to Chile earlier the same day and a narrow 3–2 defeat to Argentina the day before.

Team Ghana’s roster, featuring talented players like David Collingwoode (C.) Williams, Prince Ayivon, David Antwi, Phil Quist, Jason Bandoh, Bryce Cheek, and Kevin Asamoah-Mensah, is using the Heritage Cup as a platform to develop skills and prepare for upcoming national team trials and international competitions, including the U20 Men’s Championship in Korea.

The 2025 Heritage Cup brings together 112 teams from 36 countries, promoting lacrosse’s global growth while providing valuable competitive experience.

Ghana’s spirited performance reflects the promise of the nation’s growing lacrosse program on this global stage.

As the tournament continues through May 26, Team Ghana will aim to build on this hard-fought victory, learning from each game and returning stronger in pursuit of future success.
