Renowned Ghanaian referee, Derrick Macaire served as lead trainer in Togo, where he educated referees in Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) on September 13, 2025.

The session hosted 20 referees from across Africa, including Benin, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast, with the goal of sharpening their skills.

The program combined theoretical and practical sessions, providing hands-on learning experiences for participants.

The four-session program consisted of two theoretical classes, a practical class, and a final evaluation session that critically assessed the trainees’ knowledge.

The program was organised by Pitbull Gym in Lomé, in collaboration with the Muay Thai and Sports Council in Togo, to revive the sport on the continent.

Macaire was assisted by Coulibaly Kouassi from Ivory Coast in conducting the exercise.

Macaire is a respected and experienced MMA referee in Ghana, having officiated at various international competitions.
