In a remarkable display of diplomatic leadership, Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, has demonstrated impressive organizational skill and coordination during President John Dramani Mahama’s state visit to China.

Barely three weeks into his tenure, Ambassador Bonsu, together with his embassy team and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, led by Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the high-profile visit.

The state visit featured several key engagements, including the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality, an official meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and the Ghana Investment Forum—all highlighting the deepening bilateral relations between Ghana and China.

On Day One of the visit, President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama received a warm reception in Beijing.

Ambassador Bonsu and Ablakwa formally introduced the President to embassy staff, Ghanaian students and members of the Ghanaian business community in China, setting the tone for a successful diplomatic mission.

The following day, President Mahama participated in the Global Leaders’ Summit and held a series of productive business meetings with top Chinese investors.

These engagements, meticulously organized and facilitated by Ambassador Bonsu and his team, underscored Ghana’s renewed focus on international partnerships and investment-driven growth.

The Ghana Investment Forum, attended by President Mahama, Ablakwa, Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Trade, Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Tong Defa and other dignitaries, was a resounding success.

Simon Majie, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council, delivered a compelling presentation highlighting key business opportunities across Ghana’s economy, particularly in manufacturing, agriculture, energy and infrastructure.

President Mahama assured investors of his government’s unwavering commitment to protecting investments and fostering a conducive business environment.

Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s focus on development and economic revitalization, while Ambassador Bonsu reiterated his dedication to deepening Ghana–China relations through strengthened business, trade and investment partnerships.

On the final day of the visit, President Mahama traveled to Fujian Province, where he toured several industrial facilities in Fuzhou and engaged with potential investors interested in establishing manufacturing industries in Ghana.

The visit reinforced Ghana’s commitment to attracting foreign direct investment and promoting sustainable industrial growth.

The successful state visit marks a new chapter in Ghana–China cooperation.

Ambassador Bonsu’s exemplary coordination and diplomacy have earned widespread praise, positioning Ghana as a reliable and attractive partner on the global stage.

“I am fully committed to deepening the relationship between Ghana and China and strengthening business, trade, and investments, especially in health, education, renewable energy, transportation, and agriculture,” Ambassador Kojo Bonsu, in his closing remarks.

This landmark visit has set a high standard for future diplomatic engagements between the two nations and reaffirmed Ghana’s growing influence in global economic and political affairs.
