Ghanaians are divided over the Acting Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi’s gift of US dollar bills to evangelist and founder of Heaven Way Church, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah better known as Agradaa.

Some concerned Ghanaians have expressed their views on the issue which has been widely debated.

A considerable number of Ghanaians have stated that there are far more pressing issues which require the government’s attention, instead of Sammy Gyamfi’s gesture of generosity – stating that it is inconsequential and unworthy of an extensive debate.

Responses gathered by a vox pop by GhanaWeb’s Gifty Tetteh on May, 13, 2025, on the controversy revealed that most individuals considered Gyamfi’s actions as a regular act of kindness – stressing that he is at liberty to gift money to whoever he chooses.

“I don’t see anything wrong with what Sammy Gyamfi did. Why should he even be sacked for offering someone a gift? Agradaa is also a person deserving of the benevolence of others so why are people calling for his dismissal? After all, just as he did for her, he can equally do the same for me,” a driver said.

“The money Sammy Gyamfi gave to Nana Agradaa is being overly sensationalised. It is not a sum that warrants such intense discussion, and if this is the basis for calls for his removal, then the reaction seems unjustified,” another respondent added.

“I don’t see anything wrong with Sammy Gyamfi giving someone money. Perhaps he felt this was the only opportunity to do so, and he might not get another chance to gift her in the future. This shouldn’t be treated as a major issue that warrants his dismissal,” another person added.

Another respondent also suggested that the woman of God may have previously shown kindness to Gyamfi in ways the public was unaware of – hence he may be reciprocating a gesture from Agradaa.

Other respondents argued that Agradaa does not appear to be in financial need, – raising questions about why a government appointee would choose to extend such a gesture to her – especially when similar acts were not extended to people during his time in opposition.

“When you were in opposition, you never extended such financial gestures to her, so, why now? At a time when the country is facing critical challenges that demand urgent solutions, prioritising such expenditures raises concerns,” a respondent said.
