Social media erupted in debate after a video showing a seating chart at a Ghanaian wedding went viral.
In the video making waves on social media, the chart, pinned to a wall at the wedding venue, bore the names of invited guests, grouped by table numbers.
In the video, the banner read; “Find Your Seat,” and then lists table assignments under headings such as “Groom’s Family,” “Bride’s Family,” “Friends of Bride,” “Cousins of Bride,” etc.
The post prompted a wide variety of reactions, especially on X, as they called out the common tradition of events being full of uninvited guests.
Some viewed the seating-chart trend as a practical way to manage guest lists and avoid gate-crashers.

Others saw it as unnecessarily formal or even offensive, arguing that weddings should be about generosity rather than exclusive lists that might exclude friends and well-wishers.
“If your name no dey inside you go fit come oo but where you go sit?”
Others were less amused. One user joked that the wedding was now “a reason not to attend,” suggesting that being uninvited (or not assigned a seat) was cause enough to skip the event.
Another added, “Nothing strict here… don’t go to places without invites… simple.”
The common advice was “only go if you see your name.” But some simply vowed: “If I see my name sef I no go go.”
