Ghanaians have lauded Sports Minister, Kofi Adams after he announced sweeping cuts to the budget for the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Addressing journalists in Accra on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Kofi Adams revealed that the GFA’s initial $2 million request for September’s double-header had been reduced to $1.3 million following ministerial review.

The cost of the away clash against Chad in Ndjamena was also trimmed from an estimated $1.24 million to $841,290.
The revised figures showed major adjustments across spending lines. While the $300,000 allocation for a chartered flight was retained, player bonuses were halved from $10,000 to $5,000, officials’ bonuses were scrapped, and incidental expenses were cut from $60,000 to $20,000.
Support staff including doctors, physiotherapists and video analysts also saw reductions in their allocations.
On GhanaWeb’s Trending GH, fans applauded the move, calling it a step toward accountability and efficiency.
Many argued that extravagant allowances and bonuses had long drained resources without improving performance on the pitch.
The Black Stars face Chad on September 4, before hosting Mali on September 8, 2025, fixtures that could prove decisive in their World Cup campaign.
