Nigerian fans saddened after they missed out from the World Cup Nigerian fans saddened after they missed out from the World Cup

Nigeria has been dominating trends on social media following their elimination from the 2026 World Cup qualification play-offs.

The Super Eagles started the World Cup playoff final with an impressive performance, scoring the first goal in the 3rd minute through Frank Onyeka.

They continued to push for a second, but the resilience of the Congolese defense denied them the opportunity to score again.

The game shifted as the first half progressed, with DR Congo’s Elia equalizing in the 32nd minute.

The score remained unchanged after extra time, and DR Congo emerged victorious, winning 4-3 in the penalty shootout.

This quickly drew wild reactions from Nigerians, many of whom were livid with the team’s performance and their failure to qualify for the continental play-offs.

Other aggrieved fans stated that the only consolation would be for the team to win the upcoming 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to make up for the disappointment.

Meanwhile, their fierce rivals, Ghanaians, were excited and trolled the Super Eagles for failing to qualify for the Mundial despite having top players like Osimhen, Lookman, and others in their squad.

Some urged Nigeria to come to Ghana and study how the Black Stars prepare for such competitions.

USA 94 super eagle 🦅 team was the only team we have ever had as a nation.

The more we realize this and end corruption in NFF then the glory day of 94 will come back.

Stop picking players because they are playing in Europe rather develop the local league.

    End favouritism and…
