Ghanaians on social media have heavily criticized Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor following the emergence of new details about the tragic death of Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.

Pooley met his untimely death on Sunday, February 2, 2025, after being fatally stabbed during a violent clash that erupted during Asante Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre.

A scuffle between players of both teams escalated into a full-blown brawl in the stands as home and away fans clashed.

The death led to the Ghana Football Association, charging DCOP Donkor to lead the investigations as they sought justice.

With earlier reports suggesting he was stabbed inside the stadium, many have questioned the police’s handling of the case.

After DCOP Donkor’s interview with JoySports, some Ghanaians have accused her of downplaying key aspects of the incident, after she contradicted earlier reports by stating that Pooley was not stabbed inside the stadium but rather outside.

“This unfortunate incident [the fan’s stabbing didn’t happen inside the stadium. It happened outside, and he was picked by a tricycle and dropped at that section of the stadium,” she old JoySports.

Her revelations have further fueled public outrage, with many football fans taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration and demand justice for Pooley.

Read some of the reactions below:

Madam pls it happened inside the stadium not outside, I don’t thing the inner perimeter is the only place called stadium, from the videos circulating the incident happened in the stadium.i have been to the stadium time without number. Please come again

DCOP spare us the lies, your people were standing unconcerned right at where he was lying with guy holding a knife

DCOP Lydia Donkor is a disgrace to the police service

What’s her understanding of stadium premises

A fan has lost his life in such a tragic manner and this what a police officer has to say

Is she justifying Pooley’s death or what

    Some people are so insensitive

    Very disgusting pic.twitter.com/dtjojdDPNU

Such categorical comments must not be allowed to go unchallenged.

She should at least point to where it happened and who the tricycle rider was.

A professional police officer at her level shouldn’t be this categorical without knowing the full facts.

How can you sit on radio and tell lies 😤😡 herh Nyame b3tua wo ka you and football association

    — Brada_raph (@YeboahRaphael10) February 8, 2025

She must not be serious, in this day and time, you get up, sit on radio and make such reckless statement, so the over 40 people that witnessed the thing are liars?

She should not hold her post beyond February. She must be demoted.
