The Black Stars were held to a shocking 1-1 draw by Chad in N’Djamena on Thursday evening, September 4, 2025, a result that has left many Ghanaian fans furious and questioning both the team’s mentality and Otto Addo’s tactics.
Jordan Ayew’s first-half strike appeared to have put Ghana on course for another crucial three points in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. But a late deflected goal from Celestin Ecua denied the West Africans maximum points, sparking a wave of angry reactions online.
On X formerly Twitter, frustrations were directed squarely at the Black Stars coach, Otto Addo.
“Black Stars have a coaching problem,” one user wrote, while another fumed, “Otto Addo parked the bus after going 1-0 up against Chad and now they equalized.”

The German-trained coach’s $50,000 monthly salary also came under scrutiny.
“If President Mahama is focused on protecting the public purse then we can’t continue paying a coach like Otto Addo who has no direction & tactics… His employment is a waste of state funds. He must GO NOW!!” read one of the more scathing comments.
Others were left disappointed with the team’s apparent lack of urgency.
“Game that you can score 10 you decided to pass the ball around like you’re prime Barca… useless players,” one frustrated supporter posted.
Another added: “We played like there was nothing at stake… Otto Addo said we wouldn’t underrate them but it was the opposite. We actually lacked respect for them.”
The tactical use of forward Inaki Williams was also highlighted, with fans suggesting he was once again deployed in the wrong position.
“Personally I think Otto Addo is not using Inaki Williams well. The wing isn’t his position. The perfect place to position him is in the stand,” one user sarcastically wrote.
While some insisted the squad is rich in talent and that the problem lies with management, others warned against taking supposedly weaker opposition lightly.
“Let’s learn to respect every opponent no matter how small. Very disappointing result,” one supporter concluded.
The draw means Ghana stay top of Group I with a four-point cushion, but with Comoros and MaLi still to play later in the day, their advantage could be trimmed.
For many fans, however, the bigger worry is whether Otto Addo is the right man to lead the team to Canada, Mexico, and the United States in 2026.

If President Mahama is focused on protecting the public purse then we can’t continue paying a coach like Otto Addo who has no direction & tactics $50K (Ghc600K) every month for a job a PE Master in Accra Academy could do. His employment is a waste of state funds. He must GO NOW!! pic.twitter.com/4RZ65l1bD4

Otto Addo should’ve been sacked when we missed out on qualifying for the AFCON. We are clinging on to him hoping something monumental happens. An overly emotional selection as manager and a level of backing he does not deserve.

Personally I think Otto Addo is not using Inaki Williams well that is why he couldn’t make an impact in the game. The wing isn’t his position. If you look at it tactically the perfect place to position him is in the stands. I think he can see the game clearly from there. pic.twitter.com/Ti68vlIXFs
