A young Ghanaian social innovator, Daniel Offei, has launched ScholAfrik, an innovative digital platform designed to connect students, academics, and professionals across Africa and beyond to foster meaningful collaborations and share academic and professional opportunities.

The launch took place on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Modern Languages Annex Conference Room of the University of Ghana, attracting students, academics, and other stakeholders from various institutions.

In his Founder’s Address, Offei highlighted a significant shift in innovation emerging from the African continent and underscored the timely role ScholAfrik is poised to play in the lives of students and young professionals.

He emphasised that the platform is grounded in the belief that Africans must develop African solutions to African problems, using homegrown innovation to address local and global challenges.

“Oftentimes, when you go on platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook, the feed and content you see are diverse and differentiated. You might not even get what you want as an African, but today, we are creating a platform where Africans can belong, Africans can collaborate with other Africans, and most importantly, Africans can develop African solutions to African problems,” He noted.

Daniel Offei further urged students and professionals to take full advantage of the platform’s diverse features, which allow users to post personal and professional stories, share content, comment, like posts, and initiate research projects aligned with their interests.

According to him, these features are designed to promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and intellectual growth within the academic and professional community.

“ScholAfrik allows you to post things you are doing. Maybe you’ve taken a course, undertaken a project, or you’ve done something great. You can let others see it. You can like, comment, share things from ScholAfrik to other social media platforms, create research projects that are meaningful and targeted to the African population”, he highlighted.

Meanwhile, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana and Initiator of the International Forum on the Status of Refugees in the World, Dr Albert Antwi Boasiako, who was at the event, described ScholAfrik as a platform with strong prospects for both African and global development.

He noted that the platform provides an opportunity for young Africans to lead high-impact research capable of setting global standards and influencing international discourse.

“While we are thinking about improving Africa, we are also thinking about improving the international community. It’s a global idea, one that will improve the global village.

Not only are Africans going to benefit from the platform through the efforts of young African scholars, but scholars from other continents will also imitate or possibly draw ideas from African scholars. African scholars could become the leading light in many new areas in science, devising new theories and eventually becoming a model of integrity,” He emphasised.

In his concluding remarks, Dr Boasiako called on donors, government agencies, policy makers, and corporate institutions to support the vision of ScholAfrik.

He urged stakeholders to invest in the platform as a strategic means of catalysing sustainable development and empowering the next generation of African scholars and professionals.

“We should all encourage Daniel and his team to push this agenda, and in pushing the agenda, we will need resources. We have a lot of resources that can be directed to support ScholAfrik, and I believe that when this thing has grown, we will all stand to benefit.

This is an opportunity to encourage donors, companies, academic institutions, individuals, and the international community to fund because it is going to help the academic journey of many African scholars,” he said.
