    A 54-member engineer contingent from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrived in Jamaica to assist with recovery and rebuilding efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

    The update was shared on X by Ghana Chronicles on Saturday, December 20, 2025.

    “A 54-member Engineer Contingent of the Ghana Armed Forces has arrived in Jamaica to support recovery and rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Melissa,” the post read.

    The team, drawn from Ghana’s 48th, 49th, and 50th Engineers Regiments, will work alongside the 1 Engineer Regiment of the Jamaica Defence Force to repair damaged infrastructure and construct temporary shelters for displaced families.

    Ghana deploys soldiers to aid Jamaica after hurricane recovery

    The contingent, drawn from Ghana’s 48th, 49th, and 50th Engineer Regiments, will work alongside the 1 Engineer Regiment of the Jamaica Defence Force to repair damaged infrastructure and construct temporary shelters for displaced families.

    “The team will work with the Jamaica Defence Force’s 1 Engineer Regiment to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure in Western Jamaica,” the post added.

    President John Dramani Mahama formally bade farewell to the contingent during a parade held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

    In November 2025, the Government of Ghana also provided relief items to victims of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, as well as to communities affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica and Cuba.

    The deployed personnel have been trained to operate effectively in collaborative, multinational environments. Their mission is expected to showcase Ghana’s professionalism and discipline, while further strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Jamaica.
