A Ghanaian teacher, Morkporkpor Fiador, is aiming to make history with an attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the Longest Reading Aloud Marathon (Read-A-Thon).

The event, which was initially scheduled for December 26, 2024, but postponed due to funding challenges, has now been rescheduled to take place on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the Children’s Library in Accra, beginning at 8:00 AM.

Fiador, a Field Engineer ‘A’ teacher with the 5 Garrison Education Unit of the Ghana Armed Forces, received official approval from Guinness World Records to pursue the record attempt.

According to the GWR email, her application was accepted under the title “Longest Marathon Reading Aloud,” with strict guidelines provided to ensure the legitimacy of the attempt.

“Each point of the Guidelines must be followed by anyone attempting this record. You must ensure that everyone involved in your record attempt, including participants, stewards, and witnesses, is familiar with the Guidelines,” GWR emphasised in its correspondence.

The record, which requires participants to read continuously for days, will see Fiador attempt a staggering 240 hours of non-stop reading, using three different languages, including the local dialect.
