Some Ghanaian players secured new deals with different clubs to upgrade themselves and gain regular playing time ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

With the European transfer window shutting on September 1, 2025, players like Mohammed Kudus, Ibrahim Sulemana, Tariq Lamptey, Nathan Opoku, and others switched clubs.

This GhanaWeb Sports feature highlights Ghanaian players who made moves to different clubs in the 2025 summer transfer window.

Tariq Lamptey bids emotional farewell to Brighton after Fiorentina move

    Kudus Mohammed

Kudus Mohammed etched his name in Ghanaian football history, becoming the nation’s most expensive player with a £55 million (approximately €63 million) transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder’s move from West Ham United shattered the previous record set by Thomas Partey, who joined Arsenal for £45 million (approximately €50 million) in 2020.

He scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in 48 appearances for West Ham United.

    Tariq Lamptey

Fiorentina agreed to a €6 million deal plus performance-related bonuses with Brighton and Hove Albion to sign Tariq Lamptey on a four-year contract.

The Ghanaian right-back will provide cover and competition for Brazilian wing-back Dodô, offering Fiorentina tactical flexibility with his ability to operate on either flank.

Lamptey joined Brighton in 2020 from Chelsea and made over 100 appearances, earning praise for his pace and attacking flair, although his progress has been hampered by injuries.

    Ibrahim Sulemana

Midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana joined Serie A side Bologna FC 1909 on loan from Atalanta BC until June 30, 2026, with the club holding an option to make the deal permanent.

Sulemana becomes the fifth Ghanaian in Bologna’s history, following Stephen Appiah, Kwadwo Asamoah, Godfred Donsah, and Afriyie Acquah.

    Nathan Opoku

Newport County secured the services of Ghanaian forward Nathan Opoku on loan from Leicester City until December 31, 2025, subject to EFL approval and international clearance.

The 24-year-old arrives with a reputation as a prolific goal scorer from his time in the United States collegiate system and valuable professional experience in Europe.

    Samuel Obeng

Spanish Segunda Division newcomers, AD Ceuta FC announced the signing of Ghanaian striker Samuel Obeng Gyabaa on the transfer deadline day.

The 27-year-old forward arrived as a free agent after leaving Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, where he featured last season and competed in the prestigious FIFA Club World Cup.

    King Manu

German-born Ghanaian defender King Manu sealed a loan move to FC Energie Cottbus from Fortuna Düsseldorf.

The 21-year-old central defender will represent the third-tier side until the end of the season, donning the number 2 jersey as he looks to gain more first-team experience.

Manu remains eligible to represent both Germany and Ghana at the international level.

    Kofi Fosu

Ghanaian-born winger, Kofi Fosu Asare joined Finnish Veikkausliiga outfit FC Inter Turku from Swedish side Landskrona BoIS, signing a contract that runs until the end of the 2025 season, with the option to extend the deal until 2027.
