Ghana is mourning the loss of Adelheid Babatz Nyarko London, a remarkable woman who transitioned from a celebrated career in midwifery to law, only to pass away months after being called to the Bar in 2025.

Adelheid, who previously served as a senior midwife at St. Michael’s Catholic Hospital in Kumasi, made history as the first female lawyer in her family and the first Ghana Health Service midwife to successfully cross over into legal practice.

Her journey was one of resilience and reinvention. After decades of service in healthcare, she pursued her passion for law, eventually qualifying as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana earlier this year.

In May 2025, she marked her achievement with an inspiring post that captured her confidence and multifaceted identity:

“Allow me to reintroduce myself… The face of success, the mind of a mogul, the heart of a queen, the blueprint, the powerhouse, the CEO, the midwife, the grandma, the teacher, the Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, Adelheid Babatz Nyarko Esq… Bow accordingly.”

Her words reflected both her pride and the significance of her achievement, not only for herself but for countless women balancing ambition, family, and service.

Unfortunately, Adelheid’s inspiring journey was cut short after a brief illness, leaving behind colleagues, family, and admirers who celebrated her extraordinary accomplishments.
