Comedian Warris is a popular comedian and skit maker

Popular Ghanaian comedian Abdul Waris Umaru, popularly known as Comedian Warris, has expressed dissatisfaction with the behaviour of the media in the country.

In a discussion on GhanaWeb’s X Space on August 29, 2025, hosted by Joseph Henry Mensah and Isaac Dadzie, Comedian Warris noted that most media houses in the country only promote negativity concerning the creative arts industry.

“The only time some of the media appear on your pages is when there is a failure. You will see a media house posting who the comedian is that you don’t like. Do you think the Nigerian government and the media will put out Burna Boy like they did to Shatta Wale?” he said.

Comedia Warris added that Ghanaians only tend to support content creators who appear to be struggling financially.

“People suppose individuals they know are better than. Look at the track record. Look at people like Bosom P Yung, when he started, people thought he was mad, so there was massive support. I know a lot of artistes and content creators who are stressed,” he said.

GhanaWeb’s X Space airs every Friday evening from 6 PM to 7 PM.
