Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeat artiste Eric Opoku, popularly known as Ricky, has opened up about the reasons behind his extended break from the music scene.

In an interview with DJ Phaya, Ricky revealed that his parents’ disapproval of secular music, rooted in their strong Christian background made it difficult for him to fully commit to his career at the time.

“Music has always been my passion, but balancing my personal dreams with my family’s expectations was a major challenge. It wasn’t that I lost interest or gave up on music, but I had to respect my parents’ wishes,” he explained.

The singer noted that although he stepped away from the spotlight, he continued writing, recording, and honing his craft behind the scenes.

He said the challenges he faced have only strengthened his determination to succeed in the industry.

Ricky assured his fans that he is now ready to fully relaunch his career and release more projects showcasing his unique blend of highlife and Afrobeat.
