FactSpace West Africa, a non-partisan organization today, Friday, dated November 22, 2024, held a workshop for media personnel from 5 selected regions aimed at equipping them with in-depth knowledge and tools to aid them in reporting accurate and unbais stories now, before and after the election.

This workshop engaged media guys from Greater Accra, Western, Central, Oti, and Eastern regions of Ghana.

Speaking on the topic, “Ethical considerations in election reporting: ensuring impartiality and avoiding bias in coverage.” Dr. George Sarpong, the Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission (NMC), outlines strategic points on how to treat information meant to be aired to the public. He urged the participants to check, cross-check, and re-check such information and avoid any personal interest in stories they will be airing during this election moment.

Rabiu Alhassan, Managing Editor of GhanaFact, who doubles as the Executive Director for FactSpace West Africa, took participants through our in-depth report on hundreds of citizens killed in Bawku over a chieftaincy dispute that lasted over decades, highlighting the reluctance of social media companies to take action against harmful posts on their platforms.

The workshop ended with Tracy Aminu and Alfa Shaban Abdur Rahman, both editors at GhanaFact, talking participants through various tactics and tools to help identify misinformation and disinformation during Ghana’s 2024 general elections.

FactSpace West Africa is an independent, non-partisan organization working to tackle misinformation and propaganda across West Africa. We are leading fact-checking initiatives in Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia.
