The 25th edition of the prestigious Ghana Women Awards has recognized Hon. Joana Gyan-Cudjoe, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, as the Outstanding Female Miner of 2025.

The award ceremony, dedicated to celebrating womanhood as a crucial element for national development and progress, highlighted Hon. Gyan-Cudjoe’s pioneering role in transforming Ghana’s lucrative gold sector.

Hon. Joana Gyan-Cudjoe, who serves as the Founder and CEO of Golden Empire Legacy Holdings Ltd., has been credited with fundamentally redefining the position of women in the traditionally male-dominated mining industry.

    Redefining Global Gold Production

Under her dynamic leadership, Golden Empire Legacy Holdings has emerged as the largest licensed gold exporter in Ghana. The company currently manages an extensive portfolio of over 600 mining concessions, which are collectively valued at an estimated US$120 billion. The scale of her operations has been instrumental in positioning Ghana as a rising global force in gold production.

The award citation delivered during the ceremony lauded Hon. Gyan-Cudjoe’s remarkable journey, tracing her path “from humble beginnings to global recognition as a visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist.”

Her success, the citation noted, transcends mere commercial achievement, symbolizing perseverance, resilience, and groundbreaking innovation within the African business landscape.

    Commitment to Community and Sustainability

Beyond her corporate achievements, Hon. Gyan-Cudjoe was recognized for her deep commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development through the Joana Gyan Foundation.

The Foundation’s work focuses intensely on promoting ethical and sustainable mining practices while actively investing in community development and vital youth empowerment initiatives across the region. This dedication ensures that the benefits of Ghana’s natural resources are shared broadly among local populations.

The organizers of the Ghana Women Awards celebrated the Amenfi Central MP not only for her accomplishments in the extractives industry but also for her wider impact on the continent.

The citation concluded by commending her as a true “beacon of hope, trailblazer, and relentless advocate for progress and prosperity in Africa.”

“The Ghana Women Awards extends heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Joana Gyan-Cudjoe on this notable achievement, marking her as a crucial pillar in the nation’s economic and developmental stride,” the official statement read.
