The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has inaugurated its newly renovated national training centre at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Speaking at the event on February 12, 2025, Federation President and Member of Parliament, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, underscored the importance of the renovation in strengthening Ghana’s weightlifting prospects on the global stage.

“As you all know, this gym has been non-operational for almost a year due to necessary renovations aimed at upgrading the facilities and equipping the space for optimal use.

“Today, we are not just celebrating the reopening of a training center, but embracing a vision—one that represents growth, progress, and success for weightlifting in Ghana.”

He further emphasized the federation’s dedication to creating a safe and well-equipped environment for athletes, acknowledging the years of effort invested in advancing the sport.

Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, made his first official appearance at a sporting event since his vetting and approval.

He highlighted the need to invest in and promote lesser-known sports such as weightlifting, pledging support for its continued growth.

The newly refurbished centre is expected to serve as a crucial hub for the development of weightlifting talent in Ghana, providing athletes with the resources needed to compete at the highest levels.
