The Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) has secured a funding boost of $25,000 from World Aquatics under the 2026 World Aquatics Support Programme to advance the development of aquatic sports in the country.
The allocation comes in recognition of the Association’s sustained efforts to promote swimming and related disciplines, as well as its commitment to building a strong and competitive aquatic sports structure in Ghana.
According to the GSA, the funding will be channelled into a series of athlete-focused and institutional development initiatives throughout the 2026 calendar year. Key programmes to benefit from the support include a Water Polo workshop for coaches, anti-doping education, and the strengthening of federation management systems.
Additionally, the funding will facilitate Ghana’s participation in regional events and a continental championship, providing athletes with valuable exposure and competitive experience on the international stage.
The Association expressed appreciation to World Aquatics for the continued partnership and support, describing the funding as a significant step towards enhancing the growth of aquatic sports nationwide.
GSA officials also reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the funds, noting that the investment will contribute to strengthening the overall ecosystem of aquatic sports in Ghana while creating more opportunities for athletes and coaches to excel.
