Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has voiced concern over Ghana’s inability to find a dependable striker since the retirement of legendary forward Asamoah Gyan.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Boamah lamented that the Black Stars’ striking department has not reached the same level of consistency and quality since Gyan’s departure.

“Our striking department [needs improvement]. Since the departure of Asamoah Gyan, we haven’t had an out-and-out striker that we can rely on,” he said.

The MP recalled Gyan’s brilliance at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, where he stood out as a young and intelligent striker.

“I watched Asamoah Gyan in Germany in 2006; very young, intelligent, beat Peter Cech in goal. I watched our first game in Hannover. Asamoah Gyan is a fantastic striker, very intelligent. You may like him or not, but I love Asamoah Gyan,” Boamah shared.

He also praised the unity and strength of the team during that period, pointing to the contributions of Sulley Muntari, Andre Ayew, Dominic Adiyiah and Jonathan Mensah, who together helped Ghana build a competitive side.

Gyan, who scored 51 goals for the Black Stars, remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer, a record that endures as the national team continues its search for his long-term replacement.
