Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has charged Minister of Sports and Recreation-designate, Kofi Adams, to ensure justice is served the family of late Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly referred to as Pooley.

According to him, hooliganism is a major challenge in the sporting sector and that the canker needs to be addressed.

The Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese bemoaned the dwindling fortunes of Ghana’s sports, which have led to public criticism.

Speaking in Parliament, Kwakye Ofosu expressed optimism that Kofi Adams’ appointment will result in changes in the sector.

“He[Kofi Adams] showed that he had a keen eye for talent, and he goes to a ministry where sporting talent is key to success. As we speak, Ghana’s sports sector is in complete disarray. Only yesterday, or the day before, a football fan who had gone to witness a football match did not return home alive.

“He [Pooley] lost his life under tragic circumstances, compelling a halt to the Ghanaian League. These are challenges that I believe he has the capacity to resolve, and therefore I wish him well in the endeavor,” he said.

This comes after Pooley was fatally stabbed during a melee at a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Kotoko on February 2, 2025.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have banned Nsoatreman from using their home venue and initiated a probe into the violent incident.
