The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority(GSA), Professor Ransford Gyampo, has paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi, as part of renewed efforts to complete Phase One of the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal.

The visit comes ahead of a planned engagement involving the Board of the GSA and strategic partners, with discussions focused on mobilizing funding to complete the project.

Phase One of the terminal, which began several years ago, is about 80 percent complete.

During the meeting, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II reaffirmed his strong and long-standing interest in the project and pledged his support to help secure the resources needed to bring Phase One to completion.

He described the terminal as a major development asset for the Ashanti Region and an important national investment with the potential to create jobs and stimulate sustained economic activity.

Professor Gyampo, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the project is completed, particularly Phase One.

He informed the Asantehene that since assuming office last year, he has made several visits to the Boankra site to monitor the pace of work, engage contractors and familiarise himself and other key stakeholders with the technical and operational needs of the terminal.

He explained that these visits also serve to brief potential investors and strategic partners, while supporting ongoing efforts to secure funding to complete the project.

“I have taken personal interest in the Boankra project since assuming duty. I have visited the site regularly to understand the work, engage key players, and ensure that Phase One, which is about 80 percent complete, is brought to completion,” Professor Gyampo said.

He assured Otumfuo that the GSA remains fully committed to delivering the terminal, noting that Ghana’s trade ambitions require functional logistics infrastructure that delivers real value to shippers and the wider economy.

The Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal is strategically located near Kumasi, placing it at the centre of Ghana’s transport network.

Its location makes it suitable for handling domestic cargo and serving as a transit hub for landlocked neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.

Once operational, the terminal is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s efforts to become the preferred call to port for landlocked economies.

By allowing cargo to be cleared inland, it will reduce congestion at the Tema and Takoradi ports, lower transport costs, and improve turnaround time for transit and domestic goods.

The terminal is designed to support multimodal transport, linking road and rail systems to improve efficiency and reliability.

This is expected to strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in regional trade and support growing cargo volumes under regional trade arrangements.

The renewed focus on the Boankra project comes at a time when Ghana has recorded notable macroeconomic gains under the Mahama administration.

Improved fiscal management, relative currency stability, and renewed investor confidence have created conditions for trade enabling infrastructure to deliver stronger economic impact.

For communities around Boankra, the completion of the terminal promises employment, improved infrastructure, and new business opportunities.

For the nation, it represents a practical step towards strengthening transit trade, easing pressure on coastal ports, and reinforcing Ghana’s position as a gateway for West Africa’s landlocked economies.

The courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace underscores a shared commitment between traditional authority and sector leadership to finally translate long standing plans into tangible trade infrastructure with lasting national benefit.
