The JE Wilson Ghana Junior International 2025 badminton championships concluded in spectacular fashion as Ghana and Nigeria dominated the medal table at the U-19 finals, held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the Borteyman Sports Complex.

The final day of the U-19 tournament featured five thrilling finals: men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

While Ghana had previously swept five out of six gold medals at the U-15 level, they fell just short of replicating that feat this time but still delivered an outstanding performance.

Ghana’s first gold came in the women’s doubles, where the dynamic duo of Moslena Ama Koramah Adu and Rachael Quarcoo overpowered Egypt’s Karma Elghandour and Salma Salah Edin in a commanding victory.

The pair’s stellar teamwork and precision secured them the top spot on the podium.

The host nation struck gold again in the mixed doubles, with national champion Obapomba Adu Mintah and his twin sister, Moslena Ama Koramah Adu, triumphing over compatriots Francis Obeng and Rachael Quarcoo in an all-Ghanaian final.

Nigeria, however, asserted its dominance in the men’s events. Saidu Aliyu claimed gold in the singles final after defeating fellow Nigerian Aderinola Samuel in a hard-fought match.

The duo then teamed up to secure another gold in the men’s doubles, showcasing Nigeria’s rising badminton talent.

At the awards ceremony, Ghana Olympic Committee President, Richard Akpokavi praised the rapid growth of badminton in the country.

“Watching these young athletes compete at such a high level is truly inspiring. It proves that with continued investment, we’re not far from Olympic success,” he said.

Echoing his sentiments, Ghana Badminton Federation President, Evans Yeboah commended the players for their exceptional performances throughout the tournament.

The 2025 Ghana Grand Slam continues with senior-level competitions, running until August 17, promising more exhilarating badminton action in the days ahead.
