Private legal practitioner Kenneth Kuranchie has asserted that petitions for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, the heads of Ghana’s security agencies, and the potential ousting of Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensa have tarnished the country’s image.

According to him, these actions make Ghana appear like an unserious country in the eyes

    of the international community.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV on April 25, 2025, Kuranchie stated that no serious country removes such high-ranking officials simply due to a change in government.

“It is time that all of us made a very conscious decision to behave well. Anyone observing from afar, watching our country get rid of Electoral Commissioners, Inspectors General of Police, and Chief Justices, would only conclude that we are a banana republic.

“How many times have you heard of the United States, Western European countries, which we aspire to emulate, or Great Britain, removing their commissioners of police?” he quizzed.

Kenneth Kuranchie, who is also the Managing Editor of The Searchlight newspaper, stressed that Ghana must learn the proper democratic practices from advanced nations.

He emphasised that individuals appointed to such high offices must be allowed to serve and retire honorably.

“You get into the position, you grow in the position, you retire from the position. We must learn to adopt that culture,” he said.
