The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day 2026, paying tribute to the contributions of women in sports and society while calling for greater opportunities and inclusion for female athletes in Ghana.

In a statement marking the occasion on March 8, the GOC highlighted the significant role women continue to play in the development of sports at all levels, from grassroots participation to elite international competitions. The committee noted that Ghanaian women have consistently demonstrated resilience, dedication and excellence, bringing pride to the nation through their achievements across various sporting disciplines.

The Olympic body also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality in sports administration, coaching and athlete development. According to the statement, empowering women and girls through sports remains a key priority in line with global Olympic values and development goals.

The GOC further encouraged young girls across the country to actively participate in sports, emphasizing that athletics can serve as a powerful tool for personal growth, leadership and social change.

The committee concluded by congratulating all Ghanaian sportswomen and stakeholders who continue to champion the advancement of women in sports.
