GMet has advised residents in flood-prone areas to relocate following the onset of seasonal rains GMet has advised residents in flood-prone areas to relocate following the onset of seasonal rains

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has advised residents living in flood-prone areas to consider temporary relocation as the country enters its seasonal rainfall period.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, and monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, May 19, 2025, the Head of the Central Analysis and Forecast Office, Felicity Ahafianyo, emphasised the need for public vigilance and proactive measures during the rainy season to prevent the loss of lives and property.

“Some of the remedies or recommendations we’re making include, first of all, disseminating accurate weather forecasts to the public so that they can make informed decisions.

“If you know you are in a flood-prone area and receive such information, it is expected that you act accordingly and move out. If your area gets flooded every year between now and June, you should plan to relocate temporarily and return after the season. That way, you stay safe while preserving your home,” she stated.

She added that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is actively involved in the emergency response plan, placing emergency contact numbers in affected areas.

“They are on our distribution list. Once we provide them with the information, they assess it and take appropriate action,” she added.

Three people, including a four-year-old girl, have been confirmed dead in the Adentan Municipality following torrential rains that caused severe flooding across parts of Accra on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
