Dutch-Ghanaian winger Ernest Poku and English-Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah were on target as Bayer Leverkusen thrashed FC St. Pauli 4-0 in the Bundesliga at the BayArena.
Quansah opened the scoring in the 13th minute, rising highest to head home from Poku’s pinpoint cross and hand the hosts an early advantage. Just a minute later, Patrik Schick doubled Leverkusen’s lead with another header from a Lucas Vázquez delivery, leaving St. Pauli reeling before half-time.
The home side maintained their dominance after the restart, with Edmond Tapsoba making it 3-0 from an Aleix Garcia corner. Poku then crowned an outstanding display in the 78th minute, sliding in Jonas Hofmann’s assist to seal the emphatic victory. The winger was also the most fouled player on the pitch, winning three free-kicks.
In the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign, Poku has now registered five goals and four assists in 19 appearances, while Quansah has scored twice in 18 outings. Leverkusen next travel to face Olympiacos F.C. in the Champions League knockout stage on February 18.
