Former Ghana international Michael Essien has shared the reason behind Real Madrid’s continuous success in football.

The Spanish giants are widely regarded as the greatest football team in the world, having won several trophies including 14 UEFA Champions League titles.

Essien spent a season in the Spanish capital on loan from Chelsea, playing a role during Jose Mourinho’s time at the club.

According to him, it is all about winning at Real Madrid and nothing else.

“With Real Madrid, it’s winning or nothing,” he told Sporty FM.

“When you have all these players [Real Madrid], sometimes the coach doesn’t really need to say much. The players can solve the problem themselves. But I don’t know what is wrong with Real Madrid at the moment, but I think they will find their feet.

“First of all, when you are playing for Madrid, it’s win or nothing. And when you are playing against your biggest rival, Atletico Madrid, it can get a bit annoying.”

Essien made 21 appearances, scoring two goals during the 201/13 season.
