The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has confirmed that Ghana is in discussions with Wales to arrange a pre-2026 World Cup friendly.

The Black Stars are set to compete in this summer’s tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Head coach Otto Addo has already scheduled warm-up matches against Austria on March 27 at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, followed by a clash with Germany on March 30 in Stuttgart.

Ghana will also face Mexico in May, though the venue and date are yet to be confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Speaking before a Parliamentary Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2026, Adams revealed that negotiations with Wales are ongoing to secure an additional friendly ahead of the World Cup.

The four-time African champions are making their fifth World Cup appearance and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and close the group stage against Croatia on June 27.

After consecutive group-stage exits in recent tournaments, Ghana is determined to make a stronger impact on football’s biggest stage.
