Ghana’s Chef de Mission for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Ernest Danso, has expressed confidence that Team Ghana will achieve success both on and off the field during the Games in Glasgow.
Speaking at the launch of the Ghana House project on Wednesday, Danso stressed that while athletes are expected to deliver medals and strong performances, officials and stakeholders working behind the scenes must also contribute meaningfully to promoting Ghana internationally.
The Ghana House initiative, launched by the President’s Economic Advisor, Hon. Seth Terkper, seeks to market Ghana’s culture, tourism, investment opportunities, food and fashion during the Games.
Danso noted that modern sports extends beyond competition on the pitch, court or track, insisting that major sporting events must also attract investors and boost the socio-economic growth of participating countries.
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, Hon. Kobby Woyome, Hon. Betty Krosbi Mensah and representatives from the tourism and investment sectors all called for collaboration to ensure the project delivers long-term benefits for Ghana.
Several activities are expected to be organized in the United Kingdom before and during the Games to promote Ghana to the over 50 Commonwealth member countries participating in Glasgow 2026.
