Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr George Afriyie, has shot down the notion that Ghana doesn’t have a lot of talented players compared to the past as suggested by Black Stars Head Coach, Otto Addo, recently.

“I don’t believe in that assertion that we lack the caliber of players that represented Ghana in the past. Presently, we have players that are as talented like the past legends. We have very good players to at least match these and failed to win one.”

George Afriyie noted this in an exclusive interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News after Ghana failed to qualify to the 2025 AFCON.

The Black Stars finished bottom in Group F after failing to win a game in six outings; Angola and Sudan finished first and second, respectively to progress to the tournament in Morocco next year.

After losing 2-1 and drawing 1-1 with Niger and losing 2-0 to Sudan and drawing goalless with the Kwasi Appiah led team in the qualifiers, George Afriyie believes that Ghana have talented players who can get the job done.

“Nobody can convince me that we don’t have the talent to match Niger, Sudan or Angola. We are talking about a Ghana team that is made up of players in the Spanish La Liga, English Premier League and other top leagues around the world.”
