Nigeria's Super Eagles B head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede Nigeria’s Super Eagles B head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede

Nigeria’s Super Eagles B head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has explained that his team could not identify any significant strengths while analysing their Ghanaian counterparts ahead of their second-leg clash in the 2024 CHAN qualifiers.

He stated that their West African rivals’ biggest asset was their strong historical record against Nigeria.

Speaking after defeating Ghana 3-1 in the tie, Ogunmodede asserted that his side was determined to end the jinx.

“We studied the Ghana team and found nothing noteworthy about their strength apart from their history. Their strength is history, but we tried to blindfold ourselves to it and were simply determined to break the yoke,” he said.

He, however, acknowledged Ghana’s technical abilities before explaining how his team outplayed the Black Galaxies.

“They are very technically sound; they play through the channels and make deliveries. They came with a high line, broke the line in the first half, and their second goal came from our strength, which is set pieces.

“The third goal was also from breaking the line. In the second half, we reacted quickly and pushed more men forward,” Ogunmodede added.

The Super Eagles B cruised to a 3-1 victory in the second-leg tie in Uyo on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

The win avenged their defeat to Ghana in the 2022 CHAN qualifiers and ended Nigeria’s six-year wait for qualification.
