Following the passing of their founder, Madam Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) formally withdrew from the presidential contest a few days after Roman Fada was named the party’s new flag bearer and candidate.

Withdrawing from the election was a tough but crucial decision, as stated in an official letter signed by the National Organizer and addressed to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. The party claims that the reason for their withdrawal is to recognize its late leader Madam Akua Donkor’s sacrifices and dedication posthumously.

The party adds that it wants to pay tribute to its late leader, who was the only one to send her candidacy to the afterlife. They also pledged to be prepared and available to take part in any next elections that the Electoral Commission plans to hold. With just a few days till the election, this new discovery will only cause the ballot positions to be rearranged, indicating that John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress is taking a chance with his heavily promoted and marketed number 8.
