Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo showed impeccable mentality on Friday night August 15, 2025, scoring a brace against Liverpool after he was racially abused by a fan on the opening weekend of the English Premier League.

The alleged abuse occurred midway through the first half when Semenyo was targeted by a fan, as he was attempting to affect a throw-in.

Rather than be rattled, the 24-year-old Black Stars striker channelled his emotions into an outstanding performance.

In the game kicking off the 2025/26 English Premier League season, Liverpool took control early on in the beautiful atmosphere created by the home fans.

New signing Hugo Ekitike pounced on a loose ball in the 37th minute inside the penalty area and fired into the bottom right corner to open the scoring.

Cody Gakpo doubled the Reds’ advantage in the 49th minute with a superb low strike from the edge of the box.

Bournemouth’s response began in the 64th minute when Antoine Semenyo reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box, slotting home to cut the deficit.

Twelve minutes later, the Ghanaian produced a moment of brilliance, drilling a precise strike from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom right corner to level the match.

Despite his outstanding performance, it was not enough to earn a point for AFC Bournemouth.

Liverpool struck late through goals by Federico Chiesa in the 88th minute and Mohammed Salah in added time to secure all three points at full-time.
