Legendary Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Polo has called on Ghanaians to maintain peace during the 2024 general elections, scheduled for December 7, 2024.
Polo expressed concern over the poor state of Ghanaian football and advised citizens to use the election period as an opportunity to elect leaders in a peaceful manner.
The former Black Stars AFCON winner urged supporters of various political parties to accept the election results in good faith to ensure peace in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Adom TV, Polo warned that the ongoing crisis in Ghanaian football could worsen if post-election violence occurs.
“We need peace in the upcoming elections to help us and future generations. If there is no peace, football in the country cannot develop because recently our football has been in a mess.
“Even with our peace, war-torn countries like Sudan and Niger could beat us. How much more when there is chaos? I pray God grants everyone understanding to accept the election results and not resort to violence for peace to prevail for our development,” he said in Twi.
Meanwhile, the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), held their final rallies in Accra on Thursday, December 5, 2024, to share their messages with Ghanaians.
The elections are expected to be keenly contested between NDC Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as both parties anticipate victory.
