The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Ghana international and respected coach Michael Osei.

In a heartfelt statement, the GFA paid tribute to Osei’s significant contributions to Ghanaian football, both as a talented player and as a coach.

“We are saddened by the passing of former Ghana international Michael Osei. A remarkable figure in Ghanaian football and his contribution as a player and coach will forever be remembered. Rest in perfect peace,” the statement read.

Michael Osei passed away at the age of 53 in London on Friday, November 15, 2024, following an illness. His death marks a huge loss for the Ghanaian football community, where he is fondly remembered for his skills and achievements on the field.

Osei’s football journey began with Okwawu United, where his impressive performances earned him a move to Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko.

His talents on the pitch soon opened doors to European football, where he played for German Bundesliga clubs, including Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz 05.

After retiring as a player, Michael Osei transitioned seamlessly into coaching, making a notable impact in Ghanaian football. He managed several local teams, including New Edubiase United, Liberty Professionals, Bibiani Goldstars, and his former club, Asante Kotoko.

Additionally, Osei served as an assistant coach for Ghana’s U23 team, the Black Meteors, for five years until the technical team was dissolved in 2023.
