The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is considering appointing a technical director to assist Otto Addo, who is the head coach of the Black Stars.

The 47-year-old head trainer’s future remains uncertain after failing to guide the senior national team to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco later this year.

After six games played during the qualifiers, Ghana recorded three draws and three defeats and finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points.

Following the conclusion of the qualifiers, the country’s football governing body came under serious pressure to part ways with the former Ghana international who signed a three-year deal with an option of a two-year deal in March 2024.

After a marathon meeting with Otto Addo and his technical team, the Ghana FA announced that further stakeholder engagement would be done before deciding on the future of the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach.

However, according to reports in the local media, the GFA is now considering hiring the services of a technical director to assist Otto Addo ahead of the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

With this decision, it is expected that Otto Addo will be retained as the Black Stars but the backroom staff is expected to be dissolved as earlier revealed by Ghanasoccernet.com.

Meanwhile, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has confirmed Otto Addo is being owed four months of unpaid wages.

“It is true that we owe Otto Addo. The last time I checked with the Sports Ministry, there were salaries in arrears which is not new,” he told Asempa FM.

“We owe Otto Addo four months’ salary arrears. We have had a series of meetings with the Sports Ministry about the outstanding payment and Otto Addo himself is aware of how difficult it is to get the monies from the government but we are still working on it,” Asante Twum added.

The Black Stars after a horrendous performance in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers will hope to deliver an improved performance when they take on Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March later this year.
