Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Abass Apaak, has held a bilateral meeting with a delegation from Riphah International University in Pakistan to discuss the institution’s proposal to establish a branch campus in Ghana.

The meeting brought together officials from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, the Ministry of Education, Ghana, the Pakistan High Commission, and representatives of the visiting university.

It forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educational cooperation between Ghana and Pakistan.

Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Minister for Education and the Government of Ghana, Dr Apaak described the visit as a positive step toward deepening the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two countries.

He emphasised that higher education remains central to national development, pointing to Ghana’s transformation agenda, which prioritises strengthening STEM and health sciences education, expanding research and innovation capacity, enhancing industry–academia linkages, and promoting the internationalisation of local universities.

Dr Apaak further expressed the Ministry’s support for structured cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to guide the engagement and ensure clear, measurable outcomes.

During the meeting, the Chancellor of the university, Hassan M Khan, presented an overview of the institution’s profile and international outlook.

He highlighted its strong emphasis on medical and health sciences education, an extensive network of teaching hospitals, and expanding global partnerships.

They added that the university seeks not only to equip students with technical expertise but also to nurture their moral character through structured institutional programs.

At the conclusion of the engagement, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission was tasked with working closely with the university and other stakeholders to further assess and advance the proposal in line with Ghana’s regulatory framework.

The Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating strategic and sustainable partnerships that align with Ghana’s national development priorities.
