The Ghana Embassy in Washington, DC, held a solemn memorial service to honour the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six other officials who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The service, attended by a large gathering of mourners, included a delegation of Ghanaian clergy from Maryland and other dignitaries from the Ghanaian community.

The event provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on the lives and significant contributions of the deceased to Ghana’s development.

During the service, the Acting Head of Mission expressed gratitude to all ambassadors and members of the Ghanaian community who signed the Book of Condolence, emphasising that Ghanaians will continue to persevere for God and country.

Reverend Glover, leader of the clergy delegation, paid a heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes and urged Ghanaians to maintain their faith in God.

He expressed hope that God would restore the nation and, in His love, gather, comfort, protect and shield its people to prevent such a tragedy from recurring.

The clergy also remembered the children who lost their lives earlier in the week, praying for God’s comfort for their families.

The memorial service was held to honour and remember the fallen heroes for their dedicated service to the nation, pay tribute to their contributions in public office, and provide a space for the Ghanaian community and friends abroad to mourn their passing.
