The General Secretary of the Ghana Blind Sports Federation, Sarah Serwaa Asamoah, has called on stakeholders and institutions to come to their aid as the federation struggles with debt crisis.

According to her, the federation organized a sporting event for its members, with over 70 individuals participating, but the event left them in debt.

She explained that despite financial support from the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), the Bank of Ghana, and one other entity, the costs of feeding and accommodation led to significant losses, which they are now seeking help to clear.

“These are images from our 2025 event where we hosted over 70 visually impaired people, and we incurred losses after the event. We had only three sponsors. Our budget was GH¢400,000, but GoldBod gave us GH¢80,000, Bank of Ghana gave us GH¢30,000, and GPHA gave us GH¢10,000.

“We could not trace even GH¢150 yet we had to do it. Our fear was that GoldBod would take their money back, but we decided not to because we had already incurred losses. Accommodation and feeding were the reasons we went to see the director, and he advised us to do more social media publicity,” Sarah Serwaa told GhanaWeb Sports.

The General Secretary also revealed that during a meeting with the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, she disclosed that the federation is no longer part of international competitions due to a debt owed in Egypt.

“We owe €14,500 in Egypt, and because of that, we are not qualified to participate in any international games. The pressing issue is to settle the cost of accommodation and feeding,” she added.
