The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has achieved a historic milestone by being shortlisted for the prestigious 2024 World Athletics Member Federation of the Year Award. Ghana, alongside five other member federations, will compete for this esteemed honor.

This award recognizes the member federation that has distinguished itself through exceptional accomplishments over the past year, significantly contributing to the growth and profile of athletics.

The GAA’s nomination follows its successful hosting of the 2023 African Games in Accra, held in March 2024.

The announcement by World Athletics stated:

“In March, Ghana’s capital city of Accra held the African Games, where winners included the host nation’s Joseph Amoah in the 200m, and Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah and Evans Yamoah in the high jump.

The federation in Ghana has been very active in the West African region and has ensured the organization of major competitions in the area.”

The other federations nominated by the six area associations, Africa, Asia, South America, Oceania, Europe, and North America, include India’s Athletics Federation of India, Paraguay’s Federación Paraguaya de Atletismo, Portugal’s Federação Portuguesa de Atletismo, Solomon Islands’ Athletic Solomons, and USA’s USA Track & Field.

The awards ceremony will take place in Monaco on Sunday, December 1, as part of the World Athletics Awards 2024. These six federations will compete to dethrone Australia, which won the award in 2023.
