Ghana enjoyed a landmark weekend in volleyball as home sides Ghana Army Volleyball Club and Kalibi Volleyball Club clinched a historic double at the 2026 CAVB Zone III Volleyball Club Championship.

The competition concluded on Sunday at the Borteyman Sports Complex, where Ghanaian teams dominated both finals against Nigerian opposition.

In the men’s final, Ghana Army justified their status as favourites with a straight-sets victory over Nigeria Customs Volleyball Club. The hosts delivered a composed performance, winning 3–0 (25–21, 25–21, 25–23). Despite a late surge from their opponents in the third set, the Ghanaian side held firm to seal the title.

The women’s final saw an even more emphatic display as Kalibi brushed aside Vipers Volleyball Club in dominant fashion. Their clinical attacking and coordination powered them to a commanding 3–0 (25–15, 25–16, 25–13) triumph.

Individual honours reflected Ghana’s dominance, with Benedicta Akorli named women’s MVP, while Imoro Alhassan took the men’s accolade.

The tournament featured 32 clubs from seven West African nations, highlighting the region’s growing competitiveness. Local Organising Committee Chairman Austin Luguterah praised the event’s success, describing it as a milestone for Ghana volleyball.

The twin victories underline Ghana’s rising influence in the sport and reinforce its ambition to host major international competitions.
