Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that his ministry has made notable progress in stabilising Ghana’s power supply, following years of persistent challenges in the energy sector.

Speaking during an engagement with the top management of the Ghana National Gas Company ahead of an inspection of ongoing maintenance works at the Atuabo site in the Ellembele District of the Western Region, Jinapor recounted that intermittent power supply had previously led to load shedding.

“Upon assuming office, I inherited a challenging power sector situation. GRIDCo’s records for 2024 revealed a persistent pattern of load shedding, culminating in a significant shortfall of over 700 megawatts in December 2024. As minister, I faced intense scrutiny and pressure to deliver on our promise to stabilise the power supply,” he said.

Jinapor explained that the turnaround in the energy sector was due to collaborative efforts between the Ministry, Ghana Gas, and other key stakeholders.

“With the support of Ghana Gas and your leadership, we’ve made significant strides. For several months now, we’ve maintained a stable power supply, with no load shedding,” he added.

He attributed the achievement to a series of ongoing reforms and targeted interventions aimed at addressing both technical and financial bottlenecks in the sector.

Jinapor stressed that the government remains committed to consolidating these gains to achieve long-term goals, including energy security, economic stability, and industrial growth, all anchored on sustainable power delivery.
